2023 Skyway 10K date, registration date announced
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The 3rd Annual Skyway 10K is scheduled for March 1, 2020 and registration will open on Oct. 3, 2019, representatives said at a press conference Thursday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
Additionally, Skyway 10K representatives presented the Armed Forces Families Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with a check for $640,000, which accounted for 100 percent of the 2019 Skyway 10K’s race registration fees. To date, the Skyway 10K has raised more than $1.2 million for the Armed Forces Families Foundation in its first two years.
“We’re excited about the 3rd Annual Skyway 10K and are very much looking forward to 2020,” said Jonathan Dziuba, race director for the Skyway 10K. “More than 1,000 people work together to make this event happen. We’re so grateful for their support, for the opportunity to continue to put on this event, and that the community has embraced this as one of the Tampa Bay area’s most exclusive and premier outdoor events.”
According to organizers, registration spots for up to 8,000 runners will become available through a new lottery process beginning at 9 a.m. on Oct. 3. Applying for the lottery portion of the registration will be free. Winners will be selected at random and will be allowed to register for the race, which will then allow them to pay the $80 registration fee. The lottery process will also allow groups of up to four participants to apply for the lottery together, but please note that each group will have an identical chance of being selected from the lottery as individual registrants.
Winners of the lottery process will be able to select their desired bus wave during registration as space allows. Groups, families and friends who have been selected individually and wish to run together should select the same bus wave as each other. Further details of the lottery process will be posted to Skyway10K.com on Sept. 16.
Continuing with tradition, 100 percent of the race registration fees for the 3rd annual Skyway 10K will be donated to the Armed Forces Families Foundation.
All rules will remain the same, including which items runners may bring and items that are prohibited. Participants are required to be 16 years or older. Additionally, it is imperative to note that participants are strictly prohibited from entering the bus lane during the race. Anyone who enters the bus lane poses a serious safety risk and will be removed from the race and banned from all future Skyway 10K events.
The annual run begins on I-275 at the rest area just south of the Skyway Bridge and ends at the rest area on the North side of the bridge, which equals 10 kilometers or 6.2 miles. Only the northbound lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge are scheduled to be closed from 3:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on March 1.
